Kalaallit Nunaat Caves and Climate Outreach (Project KINDLE)

After the success of the four expeditions in 2015, 2018, 2019 and 2023, each involving first-time exploration and documentation of several caves, the Greenland Caves Project will hold a one-month residency in Ilulissat, Greenland. From 9th August to 8th September, 2025, members of the Greenland Caves Project will be residing at the ILLU Science and Art Hub and working in partnership with the Climate Narratives project. We are extremely grateful for this opportunity and looking forward to building relationships and sharing our experiences.

Our team of scientists, artists, and photographers is eager to engage with the local community and exchange experiences and scientific findings. At the ILLU Science and Art Hub, visitors will find an exciting programme of events, including educational mini-documentaries on the geology of Greenland, ongoing palaeoclimate research, and exploration of remote caves in North Greenland (all narrated in Greenlandic, English and German). The art and science exhibition features photographs from the caves and surface landscape in North Greenland as well as hands-on interactive science activities for guests of all ages.

Our team, accompanied by a Greenlandic translator, will be available throughout the residency to answer questions. We will also be holding training workshops to teach participants about cave exploration and mapping techniques and hope that project KINDLE will inspire others to lead or join future cave exploration and palaeoclimate research expeditions in Greenland.

Artist Residency

We welcome a Greenlandic-based artist-in-residence to join our team at the ILLU Science and Art hub for the duration of the residency. Personal costs are covered. Please contact Gina Moseley for further details.
